Boulder Boat Found in Akranes á Mýrum Iceland

Guðmundur Örn Sverrisson discovered a small wooden boat in Akranes á Mýrum, Iceland on March 16, 2025. Akranes is a port town and municipality on the west coast of Iceland, around 50 km north of the capital Reykjavík. The area where Akranes is located was settled in the 9th century; however, it did not receive a municipal charter until 1942.
This boat, # 232396 was originally decorated in Boulder, Colorado at Centennial Middle School with teacher Bill Schmoker during the 2022-2023 school year. It was then deployed via the Le Commandant Charcot on August 31, 2023 at the North Pole.
